…PC receive championship rings
The inaugural Schools’ Basketball League (SBL) officially wrapped up on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) with the Diamond Team defeating the Gold Team 57-43 in the league’s All-Star game, bringing the curtains down on a successful first edition of the competition.
The showcase match, held as part of the Guyana Independence Homecoming Classic and compliments of Swoosh Sports, featured many of the standout players from the league representing the Diamond and Gold teams under the guidance of coaches Kwesi Thompson and Judah Stephney, respectively.
The victorious Diamond Team featured Josiah Cumberbatch and Kemp Moriah of the Government Technical Institute (GTI), Daniel Chisholm, Ralston Pollard and Demetri Crandon of St Stanislaus College, Cristian Williams of St Rose’s High School, Romarion Wolfe of President’s College (PC) and Nathan Morrison of Queen’s College (QC).

The Gold Team was made up of Sean Duncan of GTI, Terron Mohabir and Mattaniah Fordyce of PC, Nathan Williams and Chaziah Bernard of St Rose’s High School, Darren Dublin and Jaren Boucher of QC and Lucas Pinol of Marian Academy.
Following the game, several players and officials were recognised for their performances during the league.
Sean Duncan of GTI copped the Top Scorer award after averaging 17.4 points per game and also secured the Most Blocks award with 3.4 blocks per game.
Daniel Chisholm of St Stanislaus College led the rebounds category with 11.7 rebounds per game, while teammate Demetri Crandon averaged 2.9 assists per game to claim the Most Assists title.
Cristian Williams of St Rose’s High School finished with 4.9 steals per game to earn the Most Steals award.
Mattaniah Fordyce of PC was named Defensive Player of the Year, while Darren Dublin of Queen’s College received the league’s Most Valuable Player award.
Judah Stephney of Marian Academy was also recognised as Coach of the Year.
The league’s All-Star Five included Cristian Williams (St Rose’s High), Romarion Wolfe (President’s College), Darren Dublin (Queen’s College), Josiah Cumberbatch (GTI) and Sean Duncan (GTI).

PC had previously secured the inaugural Schools Basketball League title ahead of QC and GTI, who finished second and third, respectively.
Players from PC also received championship rings instead of medals, compliments of Swoosh Styles, which additionally donated a pair of sneakers to MVP Darren Dublin.
