Sterling contributions from Mavindra Dindyal and Marlon Boele helped East Bank win the 2018 Demerara Cricket Board under-17 inter association tournament by defeating West Demerara by 61 runs in the final match on Thursday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
They were declared the winners on a Net Run Rate basis by having +0.52 ahead of Georgetown’s -0.36.
East Bank opting to take first strike posted 181 for 8 in 50 overs on the backbone of controlled 51 from Dindyal. After losing an early wicket, opener Mahindar Persaud stayed and battled with confident before he was run out on 38.
In came Sachin Singh who looked as if he would have taken the match out of the opposition’s grasp until he was stump off Rajesh Budhram for 17 as they slipped to 82- 3. Andre Seepersaud led with the ball with 2- 19 while Joshua Reddy and Rajesh Budhram took one wicket a piece.
In reply West Demerara struggled to get to their total but still managed to get to 120 all out in 42 overs with Seepersaud top scoring with 28 while Nicholas Rajpat scored 22 and Avinash Khemraj chipped in with 17.
Boele was the most destructive bowler by grabbing 4-27 while Mohamed Jameer and Zakary Jodah supported him with 3-15 and 2-19 respectively.
