Home News ECD resident shot after drunken man opens fire
An East Coast Demerara resident is now hospitalised after he was shot by an armed drunken man who opened fire indiscriminately during an argument with another man at a popular service station along the East Coast Highway.
Shanis Persaud was shot to his left hand by the suspect who has since gone into hiding. Based on reports, the suspect was imbibing in the company of several others when a heated argument broke out and quickly escalated into a scuffle.
In retaliation, the suspect took out his firearm and discharged several rounds, one of which struck Persaud who was standing a short distance away. After the suspect realised that the man was shot, he immediately scrambled into his car and fled.
The injured man was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was admitted. His condition is said to be stable.
The Police have launched an investigation into the matter and have since retrieved five spent shells from the scene. In addition, Police are working diligently to arrest the suspect.
