A 27-year-old farmer is now in serious condition after he was stabbed to his chest by his intoxicated brother-in-law during a brawl at Aishalton Village, South Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) on Monday.
The injured man has been identified as Carl Anton of Aishalton Village, South Rupununi. Based on reports received, the two men were not on speaking terms, and
on the day in question, Anton visited the home of the suspect’s sister while the suspect was there. The suspect was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, and an argument broke out between he and Anton.
The suspect then allegedly armed himself with a knife, and stabbed Anton in the chest before making good his escape. Anton was rushed to the Aishalton District Hospital, where he was treated and admitted in stable condition. He was later transferred to the Lethem Regional Hospital for further medical treatment.
Contacted on Tuesday, Regional Commander Superintendent Raphael Rose said a female officer has been dispatched to the area to apprehend the suspect and further investigate the matter.
“I sent an officer to the village to (apprehend) the suspect and to conduct some investigation into that matter. The victim is not out as yet, for us to further investigate the matter and give further updates”, the Commander has said.
