Farmer feared drowned in Pomeroon boat accident

Harry Mangal, a 37-year-old farmer of Abrams Creek, Upper Pomeroon, is missing and feared drowned after the canoe in which he was travelling collided with a wooden boat in Abrams Creek, Pomeroon River, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Tuesday night at about 21:00h.

Information reaching Guyana Times revealed that a wooden vessel powered by a 15-horsepower motor engine was returning to a destination in Abrams Creek when it collided with the small canoe that Mangal was paddling. As a result of the impact, Mangal was thrown into the Pomeroon River. Additional information revealed that his father was on a wharf not too far from where the collision occurred.
Police have since arrested the captain of the wooden boat, and a search party has been dispatched in search of Mangal.
