The upcoming Nitro Kart Clash will feature a new female class when the $10 million karting meet takes place on April 19 in Georgetown, a move organisers say is aimed at expanding participation and promoting inclusivity within the sport.
The addition of the female category has been widely welcomed, with promoters noting that the initiative is designed to encourage and develop women in what has traditionally been a male-dominated discipline. The event is expected to attract both established names and newcomers competing in open-wheel action.
Competitor Malicia Lawrence has already set her sights on the top position, praising the introduction of the class as a positive step for the sport. “I think it’s amazing, I think it’s a nice way to continue to support girls and continue to support women in general in the sport. I think it’s a great opportunity for females to come and have fun,” she said.
Lawrence also encouraged more women to take part, acknowledging the challenges of competing in a male-dominated environment while stressing the importance of participation. “Of course, we know it’s a man’s world out there, right? And for girls that want to do it, interested in doing it, even just to have fun with it, it’s nice,” she added.

Fellow competitor Fiona Dhanpat echoed similar sentiments, urging women to get involved and embrace the opportunity. “Just do it; you come out, you have fun, it’s all about, you know, fun with a female; you can compete with a male also, and you can show them that in a male-dominated sport, women can come and, you know, kick their butts,” she said.
Promoters highlighted that the initiative reflects a broader global trend, where increased female participation is being seen across sports previously dominated by men. They emphasised that the goal is to create an event that caters to everyone, from beginners learning the sport to experienced competitors aiming for top honours.
For the female class, karts will be provided, although competitors are required to bring their own safety gear. Organisers also confirmed that entry will be free for all local drivers, with expectations building ahead of the event.
More than $10 million in cash and prizes will be up for grabs, with awards set for the top three finishers in each class, along with special tokens for junior participants.
The event is being supported by sponsors including Banks DIH, AJM Enterprise, KP Jagdeo General Contractors, J’s Supermarket, SCI (Sawh’s Construction Inc), Precision Service Center, and Ramchand’s Autobody.
