GBBFF’S senior championships set for tonight at National Cultural Centre
–Bess proud of work put in by athletes; grateful to NSC/MCY&S, Fitness Express, DTS Trading
The Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF) is set to host its Seniors Bodybuilding Championships for 2021 tonight at the National Cultural Centre.
This prestigious event has seen the likes of the National Sports Commission/ Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, DTS Trading and Shipping and Fitness Express all coming on board as sponsors.
GBBFF President Keavon Bess has noted that, thus far, things are progressing, “as tickets are being sold like black cake on a Christmas eve”. He related that all logistics are in place, and the athletes are ready for action. Bess has proudly announced that the GBBFF is ready to give the audience, those watching via live stream and Guyana a much-needed bodybuilding competition. This competition is the first Seniors Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships to be staged since 2019.
In terms of the work that the athletes have been putting in, Bess has said, “The work that they have been putting in thus far is unbelievable, to say the least. Despite the situation we have been in for over a year and a half, these athletes would have taken their body to that level. Despite the challenges, I am confident that on Sunday we will see them in probably the best shape of their lives.
“They have remained very encouraged, and I can’t wait to see them on stage, and I believe that all of Guyana and all bodybuilding fans will be pleasantly pleased.”
Predicting that fans can expect a great treat, Bess explained that were it not for the pandemic, the event would have been one of the best attended bodybuilding events in Guyana. He said the quality of athletes that would be taking to the stage is very high-level, and he noted that the level of competitiveness and the development of the bodies seen tonight is something that he would have not seen in the last 10-12 years.
Bess has said Guyana is on a positive wave in terms of its level in bodybuilding, and he wishes that wave would persist in Guyana, as he is hopeful that the athletes would ride it into the CAC Championships in 2024, when it comes to Guyana, and even beyond.
To the sponsors, Bess has said, “The GBBFF would like to express our gratitude to all of our sponsors for their financial support and for making this competition a reality. The athletes are very happy to compete on the national stage with a live audience. That could not have been possible without the help of the National Sports Commission/Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, DTS Trading and Shipping, and Fitness Express. We are happy to have them on board, and we look forward to doing more business with them in terms of sponsorship.”
While on stage, athletes would be required to stand 6 feet apart from each other. While backstage, athletes will be required to wear their masks and to maintain the mandatory physical distancing. Judges would be seated 6 feet from each other, and would be required to wear their masks.
Some of the athletes expected to compete in these championships are Darious Ramsammy, Christina Ramsammy, Rosanna Fung, Nicolas Albert, Emmerson Campbell, Yannick Grimes, Colin Chesney, Marlon Bennet, Lyndon Kennedy, Brian Singh, Odel Crum-Ewing, Ashanti Conway, Gale Karim, Jonathan Jeffery, Julio Sinclair, Ronaldo Caldera and Joel Caldera.
