GPL supports Youth for Hope with $1.6M electricity connection waiver

The Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) has waived a $1.6 million capital contribution for the electricity connection to a new facility being constructed by the Youth for Hope not-for-profit foundation in Yarrowkabra, reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting community development and youth empowerment across Guyana.

The waiver represents a significant investment by GPL in a project that will provide expanded opportunities for young people through mental health programmes, education, mentorship and skills development.
The Youth for Hope Not-for-Profit Foundation, founded by Amar Ram, has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at empowering young people and fostering positive community engagement in prisons, notably the Lusignan and Timehri prisons.
GPL’s decision to waive the capital contribution reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable community development and improve the quality of life for all Guyanese.

The Yarrowkabra facility is expected to benefit hundreds of young people through a range of programmes focused on mental health, education, leadership development, life skills, mentorship and community engagement.
