National cyclist Andre “Padlock” Green continued his strong return to competitive road racing with a commanding victory in the Post-Father’s Day cycle event held in New Amsterdam, Berbice, on Sunday, June 28.
The event, organised by the Flying Ace Cycle Club of New Amsterdam, was staged for cyclists from Region Five and Region Six. Green produced a dominant ride in the 10-lap race, taking control of the contest and eventually lapping the field on his way to victory.

The race started in front of Level Up Bar at the junction of Charles Place and Republic Road, New Amsterdam. The riders moved along Republic Road, turned into Vryheid Street, then Main Street, before heading through New Amsterdam into Stanleytown. From there, they turned at Tacama Turn and returned along Republic Road to complete the circuit, with the finish also at the starting point.
New Amsterdam Mayor Wainwright McIntosh sent the cyclists on their way after leading them in a ceremonial one-lap ride around the town.
Green and Mario Washington set the early pace, moving to the front from the start. However, Green later broke away and remained in control for the remainder of the race. Washington finished second, while veteran cyclist Jaikarran Sookhai placed third.
Sookhai also topped the veterans’ category. Deon “Snow Cone” David finished second among the veterans, followed by Syborne Fernandes in third and Franco Crawford Senior in fourth.
Green also claimed all the prime point prizes available during the event.
Several special prizes were presented at the end of the race. Veterans Errol Rose and Franco Crawford Senior were recognised, while Keon Budhan, who travelled from Mahaica to participate, also received a special prize. Rose was specially acknowledged for his long involvement in athletics, cycling and sport in general.
Ten-year-old cyclist Franco Crawford Junior was also presented with a special prize.
Flying Ace Cycle Club founder, president and coach Randolph Roberts coordinated the event. He thanked the sponsors who supported the race, including Mayor McIntosh, A. Ally and Sons, Jamal King of Clean Wear Laundry, JS Supermarket, Fix IT Electronics, Prem and Vanessa Karran, and contractor Shazam Sattaur, among others.
