Grenada’s PM joins Guyanese Diaspora for Diamond Jubilee celebration

The Office of the Honorary Consul of Guyana, in collaboration with the Guyanese Diaspora in Grenada, hosted a celebration to mark Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary.
The event, held in Grenada, brought together what organisers described as the largest gathering of Guyanese nationals and friends of Guyana in more than a decade. The commemoration formed part of activities marking Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee and highlighted engagement within the diaspora community across the region.

Prime Minister (PM) Dickon Mitchell attended the event as a special guest. He reaffirmed Grenada’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and bilateral relations with Guyana and extended congratulations to the government and people of Guyana on the country’s 60th Independence Anniversary.
Remarks were also delivered by members of the community, including Darshan Ramdhani, KC, Justice Paula Gilford, and Honorary Consul Sabrita Khan-Ramdhani. Speakers addressed Guyana’s national development, diaspora unity, and ongoing ties between Guyana and Grenada.
The programme featured cultural performances, music, and traditional cuisine. Organisers said the event provided an opportunity for community engagement while marking Guyana’s independence milestone.
Honorary Consul Sabrita Khan-Ramdhani said the turnout reflected the continued connection of the diaspora to their homeland.
“The overwhelming support and attendance demonstrated the deep love and pride the Guyanese Diaspora continues to hold for their homeland,” she said. “This Diamond Jubilee celebration was more than an event – it was a reminder of our shared heritage, unity, and commitment to preserving Guyanese culture for future generations.”
Organisers expressed appreciation to attendees, volunteers, and partners who contributed to the event’s execution.
