Sarah Johanna fatal smash-up Car was speeding when it hit parked lorry – Police

Dead: Lisa Blackman

Days after an accident along the Saraj Johanna Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD), claimed the life of 29-year-old Lisa Blackman from Critchlow Circle, Tucville, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, the Police have confirmed that the car in which she was travelling was speeding when it collided with the parked lorry.
Police, in a statement on Wednesday, stated that the accident occurred last Sunday evening at about 22:40h and involved motor lorry GAJ 4979 and a motor car bearing registration number PNN 7493, which was at the time being driven by 42-year-old Nabadingi Gobin, also from Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown.
Initial reports revealed that the motor car was heading in the direction of Georgetown, and while in the vicinity of Sarah Johanna, the driver lost control and collided with the left rear portion of the motor lorry, which was parked at the side of the road.
As a result of the collision, Gobin, along with Blackman and another occupant, sustained injuries to their bodies and were taken to the New Diamond Regional Hospital. Blackman, who was the front-seat passenger, was removed from the wreckage by public-spirited citizens in a critical condition and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
On the other hand, Gobin was treated and referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention. The other occupant, a 36-year-old miner of Quamina Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, had to be removed by firefighters and remains a patient at the New Diamond Regional Hospital.
Due to the severity of the injuries incurred by the driver, the Police stated that they were unable to administer a breathalyser test. The investigation is ongoing.
Guyana Times reported that Blackman was employed with Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) as a sales representative and was a member of a football team.
In a detailed social media post, a member of the rescue team stated that the front passenger side of the car, where Blackman was seated, was lodged beneath the parked truck and that the woman was pinned inside the mangled vehicle with severe injuries. According to him, Blackman was still alive and breathing heavily when they began rescue efforts.
Meanwhile, one day after the accident, Blackman’s sister, Latoya Blackman, related that the family was informed that the vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a truck that was parked on the roadway.
The grieving sister said Blackman leaves behind a nine-year-old son, who had been spending the weekend with his father at the time of the tragedy.
