Guinness “Greatest of the Streets” GT zone semi-finals set for Wednesday

The Guinness “Greatest of the Streets” Georgetown Championship will move into a decisive semifinal stage on Wednesday, April 29, at the National Cultural Centre tarmac, paving the way for a new champion to be crowned and a noticeable shift in the tournament’s competitive order.
For the first time in recent years, the competition’s traditional powerhouses: Sparta Boss, Gold is Money, and National All-Stars have all failed to secure automatic qualification to the National Play-offs, which are scheduled for May 8 at the same venue. According to a press release from the organisers, their absence underlines a “changing landscape” in the street football arena, with “emerging teams stepping forward to challenge the established order”.

The race for the title has been further opened following the quarterfinal elimination of defending champions Laing Avenue, ensuring that a different team will lift the trophy this year.
Attention now turns to the semifinal match-ups, which are expected to deliver high-quality contests. Former champion Leopold Street will oppose previous winner Tiger Bay (rebranded as New Bay Ballers) in what is shaping up to be a closely-contested encounter between two experienced sides. Both teams have demonstrated the composure and pedigree required at this stage and will be aiming to secure a return to the final.
In the other semi-final, Island All-Stars will meet Bent Street B, guaranteeing a first-time finalist. Both teams have impressed throughout the tournament, overcoming more established opponents and displaying a confident and disciplined approach. Their performances have added a new dimension to the competition and signalled their readiness to compete for top honours.
As the semi-final stage approaches, a strong turnout is expected at the National Cultural Centre tarmac. The combination of experienced contenders and rising challengers is set to produce competitive fixtures as the tournament moves closer to crowning a new Georgetown champion.
