Guyana will make its first appearance at a FIFAe Continental Championship after qualifying for the inaugural eFootball Mobile competition, scheduled for Mexico City, Mexico.
The national team will travel to Mexico on August 28 to compete against the leading teams from across the Concacaf region. The qualification represents Guyana’s first opportunity to compete at this level of FIFA’s official football esports competition.
Guyana’s five-member eFootball Mobile squad comprises Christian Harris, Jeremiya Johnson, Jaekwon Chase, Ricardo Sukra, and Ronalhdo Sobers. Veteran competitor Harris and rising player Johnson have been credited for providing important performances and leadership during the country’s FIFAe Nations League campaign.
Daniel Idal serves as the programme’s esports operations lead, providing operational coordination and media support.
Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President Wayne Forde said the achievement demonstrated the federation’s commitment to creating new avenues for football development.
“The Guyana Football Federation is pioneering new pathways for the development of football in our country. Through esports, we are creating structured opportunities for young Guyanese to develop their talents, compete internationally and proudly represent the Golden Arrowhead,” Forde said.
“This is an important part of our vision to build a modern and dynamic football ecosystem that prepares our young people for the future.”
Introduced in 2026, the FIFAe Continental Championships serve as new regional stages within FIFA’s international esports pathway for eFootball Mobile, eFootball Console, and Rocket League.
The highest-performing national teams from each region advance from the qualifying stages of the FIFAe Nations League to their respective continental championships. There, teams compete for regional honours and further advancement within the wider FIFAe international structure.
GFF Head of Esports Martin Massiah described Guyana’s qualification as a defining moment for the local programme.
“We are building a pathway through which talented Guyanese players can compete, represent their country and succeed internationally,” Massiah said.
“Our ambition is to establish Guyana as a recognised force in football esports throughout the Caribbean, the Concacaf region and, ultimately, the world.”
The qualification follows several developments within the GFF’s Esports Division. Guyana has established a national eFootball Console squad, increased its participation across multiple gaming platforms and recently formed its first national Rocket League team.
Additionally, two Guyanese have completed the FIFAe Referee Certification Programme and are now certified to officiate in esports competitions.
According to the GFF, these initiatives form part of a long-term strategy to establish structured player pathways, identify emerging talent and provide opportunities for boys and girls from across Guyana to represent the country in international esports.
