Ryan Hercules, the head coach of the Essequibo team, is very optimistic his side will pull off the one-day title as well when they feature in the 2017 Guyana Cricket Board Jaguars Franchise 50-over nationwide competition at the Albion Community Centre Development ground.
After triumphing with the three-day trophy, Hercules is highly confident the guys can also do the same thing in the shorter format.
Essequibo will clash with the winner of today’s semi-finalists Georgetown and defending champions Lower Corentyne at Everest Cricket Club ground on Thursday.
Essequibo have advanced to the final by virtue of topping the points table with 30 points. The former Guyana youth player Hercules mentioned that winning four matches in the preliminary round was also motivating and he has every reason to be confident that they can come out on top again like they did in three-day competition.
“We have a good team and very balanced as well; the players are pumped up and ready to go in this championship encounter. We want to make history as well by winning the three-day tournament and now the limited-over and I am very upbeat we will do it whether against Georgetown or Lower Corentyne,” Hercules related.
Hercules further said he will be banking heavily on the senior and experienced players to dominate proceedings because they have been consistent throughout the competition.
Ricardo Adams, Keemo Paul, Kevon Boodie, Anthony Adams and kemol Savory are some of the big-name players who can perform outstandingly well for Essequibo Franchise on this final occasion.
The 30-year-old Hercules declared that the team which is almost identical to the three-day one, is playing committed cricket and that makes the difference so far. Even though the Essequibians are still basking in glory with three longer format trophy, they are taking it simple to lift another one, according to Hercules, who played professionally in England too during his cricket career.
