Hockey outdoor leagues suspended

The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Outdoor Developmental Leagues, slated to run from March 24 to May 20, have been suspended after inclement weather interrupted almost three weekends of hockey action.
This disclosure was made by the executive members of the Guyana Hockey Board.

Hockey action at the Saints Ground

Recent rainy weather has rendered the Saint Stanislaus ground, which was to be used for hosting of the leagues, in poor playing condition; and as such, the GHB has been unable to complete any game since April 21st.
Having also considered the situation of its junior players, many of whom are currently sitting the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams, the GHB has noted that it would be unfair to have those players on standby every weekend with the hope that the field would be acceptable for play.
Thus the GHB has arrived at its decision to suspend the development leagues. Both Under-19 and Second Division leagues have been postponed until further notice.
The leagues will continue with the hosting of the second round of matches. Currently, for the U-19 males, the GCC Pitbulls lead the way with 15 points. Hikers are in second position with 9 points, whilst Joseph Warriors and Saints Sonics follow with 7 points apiece. Old Fort, Saints Splinters and North Ruimveldt Multilateral round off the category with 6, 3 and 0 points respectively.
On the female side of the U-19s, Bingo Spartans have 9 points, while St Joseph’s, Saints and GCC Her-ricanes have 6, 3 and 0 points respectively.
GCC, the Sequels and Old Fort are tied in first position of the Second Division with 12 points apiece; Bounty GCC follow with 9 points; and Saints U-19, Senior Saints and Hiker Cadets finish off the category with 6, 3 and 0 points respectively.
The Second Division females are being led by Pizza Hut GCC with 7 points, Saints are in second position with 4 points, Bingo Spartans have 3 points, and Old Fort and Woodpecker Hikers have one point each.
