Industry Chinese supermarket, Liliendaal Rubis Service Station robbed
Police are hunting for a gunman and his accomplice who carried out a daring daylight robbery on the Wan Li Supermarket located at Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Saturday.
Based on information received, the man who was armed with a handgun stormed into the supermarket around 15:10h, walked up to the cashier, and demanded money.
After the cashier refused to hand over the cash, the suspect forced his way to the cash register and emptied it, taking the day’s sales – an undisclosed sum.
After committing the act, the man left the supermarket, jumped on a waiting motorcycle and together with his accomplice fled the scene. Police are reviewing Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of the robbery with the aim of capturing the suspects.
Meanwhile, several customers and pump attendants were forced to run to safety after two armed men robbed the Rubis Service Station at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.
Based on CCTV footage, a white motor car bearing registration number, PNN 6109, pulled up at the service station after which two men exited and ran towards a pump attendant. They were reportedly armed with handguns.
The surveillance camera showed the men picking up cash that had been dropped on the ground in the mad dash for safety. It was unclear who dropped the money. After collecting same, the men entered the car, which fled the scene. The Police have been summoned and a probe has commenced.
