Lethem man charged, granted bail for narcotics possession

Charged: Mortimer Dick

Fifty-year-old Mortimer Dick, of Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu–Upper Essequibo), was charged and granted bail for trafficking narcotics on Tuesday.
Dick appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. He reportedly pleaded not guilty and was granted $100,000 bail.
As part of his bail conditions, the defendant is required to report to the Police every Friday. The matter was adjourned to April 1, 2026.
Police stated that they discovered a quantity of cannabis on Friday during an operation conducted at Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi.

The ganja that was found on the premises

Enquiries revealed that ranks conducting an operation at a business found a bulky black plastic bag containing several parcels of cannabis in an unoccupied building.
The ganja was weighed and amounted to 2129 grams. At the time, a 25-year-old suspect was arrested, but after further investigations, charges were instituted against Dick.
