A number of persons, particularly in the mining sector, were registered on Tuesday last to participate in another safety training course hosted by Guyana Mining School and Training Centre. The third of the two-day course is being held under the theme “Safe and efficient blasting for open cut mines”.
Mining Coordinator for the Natural Resources Ministry, Kiefer Bacchus noted that both safety and efficiency are of much importance, especially in the mining sector. Speaking on behalf of Minister Raphael Trotman, Bacchus underscored that the presence of same will guarantee extreme production within the respective sector.
“Therefore, it is paramount that the Ministry of Natural Resources supports initiatives of such nature. … The safety of active personnel in the mining sector is of utmost importance and, therefore, this course seeks to considerably impact the efficiency of open cut mining operations,” Bacchus noted.
On that note, the coordinator applauded the efforts made by the mining school in offering the training which will specifically benefit the miners by allowing them to have the required knowledge.
On the other hand, Chairman of the Guyana Mining School Board of Directors, Audwin Rutherford in his address to the participants used the opportunity to admonish them to take advantage and receive the relevant training needed in their mining professions.
The training was a result of a collaboration between the Guyana Mining School, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Orica Mines Services.
Some of the topics that are expected to be discussed are types of explosives, explosive parameters, practical blast design in quarries and mines, vibrations, laws and regulations of Guyana among others.
Participants of the programme are from various agencies including Jaguar Mining Syndicates, National Mining Syndicates, Aurora Gold Mines (AGM) Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Guyana Police Force (GPF), Troy Resources, STRACON along with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC).
