Munisar elated to make an impact at T20 World Cup

Guyanese off-spinner Ashmini Munisar is relishing her time at the ongoing 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, coming off of a strong performance against Sri Lanka’s women in the team’s last outing.
Coming in as an additional spin option, Munisar seized the opportunity of her first outing at the World Cup with both hands, returning 1-16 from her four overs at an economy of 4.00.
Discussing her first World Cup wicket with CWI Media, the Guyanese described it as “special”.

Munisar expressed, “It was a really special feeling and a special moment. As soon as it hit her, I knew that was out; they reviewed it, and it was just myself and the entire team waiting for confirmation to know if it was my first. It was a really enjoyable moment sharing that special wicket with all of my team members.”
Making an instant impact for the West Indies Women in her first game at this World Cup, Munisar shared that it’s a long-standing goal.
“It’s something that I’ve always been working on to be that,” Munisar explained. “Whenever I come off the bench or whenever I have an opportunity, just make the most out of it and to try as much as possible to have an impact on the game.”
The 22-year-old admitted that her performance comes as a confidence booster.
She noted, “Once you’re doing well, obviously confidence will boost, but you got to know within yourself that you have to have confidence. To have an impact in such a game, it just goes to show that yeah, I’m good enough and I can only get better from here.”

As the West Indies women prepare to take on England today in a Group Two, top-of-the-table clash, the Guyanese spinner detailed a few areas that will have their attention.
“Obviously, the conditions might be a bit different,” Munisar reasoned, “So, just us as a team, adapting to the conditions, having our combinations right and just going out there and executing at our best.”
West Indies and England will do battle from 13:30h today at the iconic Lord’s Ground in London.
