The 72-year-old great-grandmother of seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed, who was murdered, remains hospitalised and will be re-interviewed by Police once she is medically fit, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law Enforcement) Wendell Blanhum said on Thursday.

Blanhum made the disclosure while speaking with reporters on the side-lines of an event, where he was asked for an update on the case.
He noted that the murder case is currently before the court and therefore remains under judicial consideration.
“That matter is presently before the court. It is under judicial scrutiny and, therefore, I cannot comment any further pertaining to that matter,” he said.
However, the crime chief provided an update on the child’s grandmother, who remains hospitalised, from an act of violence.
The lifeless body of a child was found lying in a pool of blood, while his great-grandmother was found stabbed in the neck and lying on the ground at about 05:05 on June 5. According to reports received, a relative went to the home, where he discovered the 72-year-old woman injured and the child motionless inside the house. The injured woman was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where she was admitted as a patient.
On the other hand, the child suffered a gaping wound to his neck, and a knife, suspected to have been used during the incident, was recovered at the scene.
“Definitely, the grandmother is still hospitalised. As soon as she recovers, the Police will ensure that we re-interview her. On completion, we will prepare the case file and send it to the DPP for legal advice. Most definitely, we will institute charges based on the DPP’s recommendation,” Blanhum told the media.
He also condemned the attack, describing it as a “very gruesome and despicable act”.
“What I can tell you is that the perpetrator committed a very gruesome and despicable act. I do not want to divulge certain information pertaining to the act committed by the perpetrator, apart from what I revealed to the media before,” he said.
Hours after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advised that Shaeed Mohammed, called “Max”, be charged for the brutal murder of seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed, he was escorted by Police to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court and arraigned. He had reportedly confessed to the act before being charged.
The 23-year-old farmer of Providence, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), who also has links to Zeelugt, EBE, appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison. The case will continue on July 20.
