One month’s conditioning funded by Government for athletes representing Guyana – Ali

President Dr Irfaan Ali makes a public address

President Dr Irfaan Ali, in his address to the nation on Wednesday evening, made a landmark announcement for the local sport fraternity, aimed at improving performances on the international level.
The Head of State, in revealing what citizens can look forward to in the sport industry over the next few years, divulged that the Government will be funding one month of conditioning and training for Guyanese athletes who are set to compete overseas.
President Ali told the gathering at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC), Liliendaal, on Wednesday, “More specifically, in the area of investment in sports, our Government will complete the new International Stadium at Palmyra, the synthetic track, multipurpose sports centres and other modern sports facilities, including a high-performance conditioning facility to ensure all Guyanese youth, particularly our talented athletes, have adequate opportunity to realise their full potential.”
President Ali went on to disclose, “I’m pleased to let you know that every national team representing Guyana at sporting events will now benefit from one month of conditioning training and preparation that will be supported by the Government before those activities.”
“To ensure that our athletes are in good condition and are in the right environment to excel at whatever they do,” he further added.
