A pedal cyclist is now dead after he was struck down and killed by a motor car on the Golden Fleece Public Road, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Saturday evening.
The dead man has been identified as Tulsiram Rajkumar, also known as “Otam”, 59, a fisherman and a father of 11 of Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast.
According to Regional Commander Crystal Robinson, the accident occurred sometime around 18:30h, and involved motor car PRR 4866, driven and owned by a resident of the same village.
Reports are that the pedal cyclist was on his way home and was reportedly heading in the northern direction along the road when the motor car, which was also proceeding in the same direction, allegedly at a fast rate, struck the man down.
According to Police, the driver collided with the rear end of the pedal cycle, and due to the impact, the cyclist fell on to the roadway and sustained injuries to his head and neck.
He was picked up and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital in an unconscious state but was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the motor car was taken into Police custody and is presently assisting with investigations.
