Port Mourant Emancipation Day Race Meet set for July 31

After a successful hosting of the Easter Monday horse racing at Port Mourant, horse race enthusiasts should look forward to another exciting event set for July 31 at Port Mourant Turf Club.

Santa Cruz Lady took the feature event on Easter Sunday

According to race organizers, more than eight million dollars in cash prizes will be up for grabs. Additionally, 30 newly imported horses from Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America will be competing for the first time in Guyana.
The Easter Sunday race was the first time since the COVID-19 shutdown that Guyana had organised horse racing. The recent race meet on Easter Sunday saw Santa Cruz Lady of Jagdeo Racing Stables clinching the $300,000 cash prize and trophy donated by Banks DIH in the feature event.
The pre-race favourite, Golden Dancer of Karibee Racing Stables, ran out of gas as Goodwill Boy, another horse from Jagdeo Racing Stables, finished ahead.
The first race of that event, which was the L Class and Lower category, saw Red Star walking away with the first prize of $120,000.
In the second race of the day, the Class non-starter saw the pre-race favourite, Charandass, living up to expectations with a crushing win against Skittles, Big A, and Cat Eye in that order. Charandass picked up the $120,000 first-place prize.
In race three, which was the three-year-old Guyana-bred horses’ event, Maximus walked away with the $160,000 cash price and trophy.
Meanwhile, in race four, which was the four-year-old Guyana-bred horses’ event, Trump finished first. As mentioned above, the prizes were high for the Easter Sunday race, but for July 31, the prizes will be higher.
All the top horses and more will be battling for supremacy on the final day of July 2022.
