Ramdhani finishes fifth in Vancouver Island University Under-23 Badminton Tournament

Playing his first competition in Canada since commencing his scholarship, Guyana’s Sunburst badminton champion Narayan Ramdhani finished among the top five in the men’s singles draw of sixteen players in the Vancouver Island University under-23 Badminton Tournament in Nanaimo on Saturday.

Representing Shuttlesport Badminton Academy, Narayan only 18 years old and still a Junior Player, reached the quarterfinals in the main draw by defeating Robert Foster of Vancouver Island University 21-13, 21-18 but lost to James Ho of University of British Colombia 21-14, 19-21, 21-5 in a thrilling three setter and also stopping him from reaching the semis. James Ho went on to win the Tournament.

In the Placement Draw Narayan, who is studying for a degree in Sports Science defeated Thomas Tran of Simon Fraser University: 21-9, 21-7 and Jack Chen of University of British Colombia: 21-23, 21-10, 21-12 to gain the fifth place overall in the Tournament.

Narayan will team up with Zack Fan of Shuttlesport to play in the Men Under-23 Doubles. Results for that will follow in a subsequent report.
