RHTY&SC receives boost from Speaker of National Assembly, Paul Importers

The continuing effort of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, M.S to offer sports, culture and education as an alternative to a life on the road for youths recently received a major boost when Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Barton Scotland and Jaipaul Bharrat of Paul’s Importers located in Garnett Street, Campbellville made major contributions.
Dr. Scotland donated two large trophies and a large collection of medals while Paul Importers donated a large carton of trophies.

Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster who received both donations disclosed that as part of the RHTY&SC highly successful Say NO/Say Yes campaign, dozens of sporting, educational and cultural events would be held and the trophies along with the medals would be shared out as prizes.
The events would include public speaking, essays, debates, spelling bee, cricket, basketball and football tournaments.
The energetic Club official informed Dr. Scotland that the RHTY&SC is the only youth and sports organisation in the history of Guyana to have ever received a National Award and disclosed that to date a total of 206 have been successfully completed out of the proposed 500 programmes/activities the Club have set itself for 2017.

The long serving RHTY&SC Secretary/CEO and the Speaker also discussed possible areas of cooperation including an article on Parliament in the Club’s 2017 Magazine, visit to Parliament by club members while the Speaker and his staffs were officially invited to visit the club in July.
Dr. Scotland in handing over the donation, praised the remarkable work of the RHTY&SC in making a difference in the lives of others and stated that he was pleased to assist in a small way. The Speaker then took the RHTY&SC delegation which also included Vice President Mark Papannah on a guided tour of Parliament Chambers.
Bharrat of Paul’s Importers disclosed that for years he has been an admirer of the outstanding work and achievements of the RHTY&SC, an organisation he described as the best in Guyana. He congratulated the Management of the Club for their visionary leadership and also on the role they are playing in changing the lives of youths and less fortunate.
Speaking directly to the Club’s Secretary/CEO, he urged Foster to share his vast experience with Clubs across Guyana including Bharrat’s own Club, the Georgetown Cricket Club. Bharrat is one of several GCC members who are spearheading efforts to restore the historic Bourda Cricket Ground which has fallen into despair.
The Club Secretary/CEO readily accepted the invitation to share ideas with the Georgetown Cricket Club once a meeting can be arranged on a date suitable to both parties. The combined donation of trophies and medals are valued at $100,000.00
