ꟷ Coach Hercules hopes Savory gets into national set-up

Exciting cricket will today continue across different venues in Guyana, with matches set for Tuesday October 15 featuring Upper Corentyne clashing with Essequibo at Everest, Georgetown meeting West Demerara at Tuschen, East Bank playing West Berbice at Bush Lot, and Lower Corentyne and East Coast engaging each other at Enmore.
In the opening round of the SBF Petroleum/CGI Jaguars 50-Over franchise tournament, Essequibo defeated Georgetown by 122 runs. After the match, Essequibo Coach Ryan Hercules engaged this publication to express satisfaction with that team’s opening round performance.
Brilliant performances on behalf of the defending champions came from Kemol Savory and Ronsford Beaton. Hercules, in declaring brilliant Savory’s innings of 81, said: “He did a lot of work on his batting, and he showed that level of maturity before. This is not the first time he (has) dug us out of a hole. He has been doing this over the years, and I think he needs to remain consistent and, hopefully, he can get into a national team this year.”
The Essequibo team moves forward under the captaincy of Anthony Adams, and Hercules has declared the bowling “powerful”. He said, “We are going to take each game at a time”.
Essequibo having played fearless cricket in the 2018 franchise, it is evident that beating Essequibo is everyone’s target.
“As I said to the guys, each team will come for us. last year we had nothing to lose, but this year is different, since we have the trophy. We will not take anyone lightly, we are going to come hard at every single team,” he said.
Reflecting on his performance and that of the team, Savory said it was a brilliant effort. “Losing five quick wickets against Georgetown under pressure and digging Essequibo out of a hole was a good comeback, and the guys did well with the ball”, Savory concurred.

This reliable left-hander has added that he would remain positive heading into the upcoming matches. Speaking as captain of the Essequibo team, Anthony Adams described this performance as a great start, especially because Essequibo are defending champions.
