Sky Kings Sports Club and Guyana Rush Saints crowned champions
GPF/RFA 5-A-Side Futsal Tournament…
Sky Kings Sports Club and the Guyana Rush Saints FC were crowned female and male champions of the recently-concluded 5-a-side futsal tournament after the ultimate matches were played on Saturday last at the Tabatinga Sports Ground in Lethem.
This inaugural tournament, held in observance of the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF’s) 180th anniversary, was witnessed by a crowd of approximately 2000 enthusiastic patrons. It was hosted by the Lethem branch of the GPF, in partnership with the Rupununi Football Association (RFA).
Guyana Rush Saints players were among the recipients of special awards, including Franklin Parks, who secured the Most Goal Scorer’s trophy, and his brother Terrance Parks, who obtained the Best Goal-Keeper’s trophy.
The tournament’s Most Valuable Male Player (MVP) was Luciano Brown of the Tabatinga FC, while Lenadra Simon of the Sky Kings Sports Club was adjudged the female MVP, and Ruth Peters of the same club was adjudged Best Goal Keeper.
At conclusion of the tourney, Officer-in-Charge of the Lethem Police Station, Kiethon King, congratulated the teams and promised that the tournament will have more participation next year.
“We would love to thank all the teams for coming out, and (we offer) congratulations to the winning teams. Come next year, we will extend this to all the districts, and bring out the winning teams to play here, of course with collaboration of RFA,” he said.
The one-day activity featured 16 teams, five of which were female teams while 11 were male teams. The male teams were: Moco Moco FC, Guyana Police Force (GPF), Rising Stars FC, Snatchers FC, Gladiators FC (A&B teams), Guyana Rush Saints FC (male), Terminators FC, Far East Sports Club, Potarinau Sky Kings FC, and Guyana Defence Force.
