A two-vehicle collision at Caledonia, East Bank Demerara (EBD), on Wednesday evening has led to the demise of a 49-year-old woman who was an occupant of one of the vehicles.
The deceased has been identified as Cheryl Skeete of Soesdyke, EBD.
According to reports, the accident occurred at about 18:45h and involved motor car PAM 6733, driven by a 49-year-old woman with Skeete as an occupant, and motor car PAM 2468, driven by a 44-year-old male of Coverden, EBD.
Preliminary investigations revealed that motor car PAM 2468 was proceeding north along the public road at a fast rate of speed when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle and ended up in the path of PAM 6733, thus resulting in a head-on collision.
Skeete was pulled from the wreckage by members of the Guyana Fire Service but was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical technicians.
However, the drivers of both vehicles were taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they remain in a critical but stable condition. The body of Skeete is stored at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem.
