Just into the second week of the Regal Sports Softball Tournament, the quality of the sport was displayed at the Ghandi Youth Organisation, Woolford Avenue on Sunday where Speedboat XI powered past Regal XI to a seven wicket victory.
In the 15 over affair, Regal won the toss and decided to bat and made 152 from their allotted overs after losing nine wickets. Regal benefitted from a few good partnerships after losing their first wicket with 28 runs on the board that brought W. Housain to the crease who top scored with 36 before being bowled by Ameer Nizamudin. Housain struck 2 sixes and 3 fours. Nizamudin, Kelvin Orford and Shachin Singh picked up two wickets a piece and Fazal Rafeek copping one.
In Reply, Speedboat XI raced to 155 in 10.3 overs having only lost three wickets to win the match. Navin Singh in partnership with Rabindra Ramnath put together an opening stand of 124. Singh fell in the eighth over to K. Smith for 61 which included six sixes and four fours, while Ramnauth went on to guide speedboat home with an unbeaten half century. Ramnauth also struck 6 sixes and 3 fours.
Singh was the only bowler to find the breakthrough and carted off with figures of 3-17 inside two overs. The action continues on Sunday at the same venue.
