Sri Lanka-CWI President’s XI clash ends in draw after day 2 fifties from Mayers, Chase

The two-day warm-up match between Sri Lanka and Cricket West Indies President’s XI ended in a draw at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. Resuming the day on 103-1, CWI President’s XI reached a decent 294 all out in 81.2 overs. In Sri Lanka second innings, they were 56-0 when the match ended in a draw on Thursday afternoon.

Roston Chase

In addition to Shai Hope, with 68, Kyle Mayers (57) and Roston Chase (52) highlighted the batting for the West Indians. Hope, who resumed the day on 60, added only eight and his 102-run partnership with Darren Bravo (30), who failed to add to his overnight score, concluded at 111-2.

Dananjaya DeSilva took three wickets for Sri Lanka

Mayers and Chase added 76 runs for the fourth wicket.
Mayers was aggressive in his approach, scoring a fluent 57 from 66 balls. Captain Chase, who had four wickets in the first innings, showed why he should be selected for the first Test against Sri Lanka, scoring a brisk 52 from 81 balls as the President’s XI posted 294.
Off-spinner Dananjaya DeSilva bagged 3-26, while left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya had 3-69. Paceman Suranga Lakmal warmed up well with 2-14 in ten overs as the Sri Lankans aim to preserve his body.

Kyle Mayers

In Sri Lanka’s second innings, the openers look settled with captain Dimuth Karunarante scoring an unbeaten 27 and Lahiru Thirmanne made 23 when the match ended. The Sri Lankans will now focus on the first Test which bowls off on Sunday March 21 in North Sound Antigua.
