Suspect in head chopping incident to make court appearance

D Division (West Bank Demerara-East Bank Essequibo) Commander, Leslie James, confirmed on Wednesday that ranks in his division are investigating the details surrounding an altercation between two men which led to one chopping the other in the head.
Guyana Times was recently told that the two men, along with others, were imbibing at a wedding house on a sideline dam in the Wales, West Bank Demerara area over the weekend.
The two men were seen arguing at first but the altercation became more intense and the aggressor obtained at sharp instrument and reportedly dealt the victim at least one chop to the head. The man was hospitalised and was subsequently discharged. This publication was told that the aggressor is currently in the lockups at the Wales Police Station and could be arraigned through the court today. This newspaper was also informed that the victim, reportedly called “Spragga”, appeared at the Wales Police Station on Wednesday where he provided statements to investigative ranks.

Guyana Times understands that the man who dealt the chops is known for exhibiting violent behaviour and was in the past wanted for chopping off Sister’s Village resident Jamie Narine’s arm some years ago during a separate altercation.
Reports from persons in the area suggest the man had evaded West Demerara Police and was residing in Berbice. It was disclosed that he returned to Demerara and was roaming free in the area for the last several months. Investigations are continuing.
