Child rapist beaten by prison inmates

A man who was recently convicted for allegedly raping a child is now nursing injuries at the Georgetown Prison infirmary following a severe beating by inmates.

Alvin Rudder, who was jailed for 10 years by a 12-member jury at the High Court, is said to now be a patient at the infirmary.

Reports are unclear as to what caused the beating. However, the matter is being investigated.

Convicted: Alvin Rudder

Rudder was handed the 10-year sentence by Justice Navindra Singh after the jury members found him guilty on a first count of rape and not guilty on the second count.

He was found guilty on the first count after the jury voted 11-1 he was guilty, and not guilty on the second count 10 to 2.

Rudder was unrepresented by legal counsel and maintained his innocence, telling the Judge, “Your Honour, I never did it. I don’t know anything about it.” The charge against him stated that on April 9, 2012 and between July 1 and 31, 2013, he engaged in sexual activity with a minor, who is a family member.
