Police ranks who were on patrol in New Amsterdam, Berbice, on Monday, recovered a quantity of cannabis after two men escaped, leaving the narcotics behind.

The ranks were on patrol in the area at about 00:40h in the vicinity of Saint John Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice, when they observed two identifiable males acting in a suspicious manner.
As the ranks approached the men, they both ran in a southern direction and escaped.
A search was subsequently conducted in the area and three bulky black plastic bags were found. The bags each contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems of cannabis.
The cannabis was taken to the Central Police Station where it was weighed and amounted to 254 grams.
