– for final planning session on establishment of women’s shelter
Linden Mayor Waneka Arrindell has departed Guyana for Arizona, United States, to attend the final planning conference for the establishment of a women’s shelter and two community centres in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
Arrindell left Guyana on Monday for the discussion, which will be centred on the plans for construction of the facilities.
Last year, the Mayor had announced that the US Armed Forces Southern Command (New Horizons) will be pursuing the initiative in collaboration with the Guyana Government. The engineers were expected to commence construction in January as part of “Exercise New Horizon 2019”.
The women’s shelter is expected to cater for abused women seeking assistance
