Guyana’s run in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics came to an end early on Wednesday morning when Aliyah Abrams competed in the Women’s 400M semifinal.
Abrams, a second time Olympian, had her heart set on making it to the final, but still did one better than her Rio 2016 outing, as she qualified for the event’s semifinal on Monday evening.
In the semis, Abrams was lined up with reigning Olympic Champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Great Britain’s Jodie Williams, Jamaica’s Roneisha McGreggor, Spain’s Aauri Bokesa, USA’s Wadeline Jonathas, Netherlands’ Lieke Klaver and Poala Moran of Mexico for the second of 3 semifinals.
Abrams fell a hundredth of a second below her season’s best time, clocking 51.46s in the semifinal, which unfortunately was not good enough to advance to Friday’s final. She placed 7th in the heat.
Miller-Uibo, winning in 49.60s has moved on to the final to defend her title, with Great Britain’s Williams being the next qualifier out of the group with a 49.97s finish.
All seven of Guyana’s athletes at the Tokyo Games have already completed their stints with several impressive performances.
