…Singh leads resistance for Jaguars
The Barbados Pride continued day 3 of the CWI Colonial Medical Insurance Regional 4-Day Championships on 239-3, they were further able to further expend their total to 389 all out with the better prospects of winning the game, being played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
With a first innings total of 389 and lead of 180, the Jaguars managed to chop the total down, trailing by 39 runs heading into the penultimate day with a score of 141-3 in 41 overs. Overnight in the middle are Vishaul Singh and Raymond Reifer, on 56 and 17 respectively.
The mammoth total set before them was no easy task as the Pride innings saw Kyle Mayers top scoring with 75 off 100 balls. He was ably supported by Jonathan Carter 73, Sheyne Moslely 46 and Kraigg Braithwaite 40. To add further insults to a below par Jaguars bowling unit tail enders Kemar Roach, Jomel Warrican and Keon Harding were able to contribute scores of 35, 24 and 21 runs respectively. Some reward did come after toiling in the hot sun as Jaguars pacer Keon Joseph bagged figures of 4-75, he was also rendered assistance by Nial Smith who picked up 2-84, also chipping in with wickets were Christopher Barnwell, Versammy Permaul and Raymond Reifer all chipping in with one wicket a piece.
Sent into bat needing to surpass a target of 180 runs, the Bajans did not make things easy for their counterparts. Tagenarine Chanderpaul’s barricade like batting was broken down as Kemar Roach rained down a barrage of fiery deliveries that trapped him leg before for 6, Chandrapaul Hemraj retired hurt on 8 after he copped a bouncer from Roach to his arm forcing him off the field to add to the woes of the Jaguars. Skipper Leon Johnson was unable to make a contribution with the bat as he was bowled by Kevin Stoute for 17. Vishaul Singh and Christopher Barnwell came to the crease and added a superb partnership of 46,
one that was much needed by the Jaguars as they commenced the counter attack. Even after Barnwell departed for 26 as he was dismissed by Warrican, Singh continued to carry on as he gradually brought up his half century which included 10 boundaries. From their Singh and new batsman to the crease Raymond Reifer carried on as the Jaguars safely made it through the final session of the day without the loss of a wicket.
