National Head Coach Willon Cameron will spearhead a new schools’ basketball league, with the action set to commence on January 16, 2026 featuring thrilling games at various venues across the city.
Cameron’s vision for the league is crystal clear – to supercharge the youth basketball scene in Guyana.
“The simple thing is that I always wish we could be playing more games. We put in a lot of work, and you want your players to develop, but playing 10 games or 15 games maximum a year really does nothing.
“And on the girls ‘ side, it is even worse. I have shared this idea many times, and this time around, I just decided to engage other coaches who happen to feel the same way,” Cameron stated.

The pilot season promises an electrifying format, featuring six dynamic teams. Each squad will face each other both at home and away, for an impressive total of 10 games.
“Each team is going to play each other home and away, so that’s 10 games, right? For us, that is significant, because typically, we probably only get about 10 games a year. So, to have 10 more games just like that is going to be significant for us. As this pilot season runs, we will be able to assess and figure out better timelines and look to incorporate more schools,” Cameron highlighted.
The inaugural line-up comprising powerhouse schools, including Queen’s College, President’s College, St Rose’s High, St Stanislaus College, Government Technical Institute (GTI), and Marian Academy.
