Caricom Gold Cup horse race meet set for July 5 

Horse racing will return on Sunday, July 5 when the Caricom Gold Cup takes centre stage at the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC).
The Guyana Horse Racing Committee released a provisional programme which will see 11 races on the card and more than $15 million in cash and prizes up for the taking.
The Caricom Gold Cup feature will be open to all three-year-old and over horses going at a distance of 1900 metres. A total purse of $4 million will be up for grabs and the top horse will win $2 million.
Other races on the programme include the Caricom Sprint stakes open to all four-year-olds and over, Caricom Derby open to three-year-olds Guyana bred, and the E Class and Lower.

There is also the Rising Star stakes open to three-year-old imported horses, the three-year-old and over WI Bred winners, H Class and Lower WI Bred non-winners in Guyana, three-year-old and over I/J/K Class, L Class winners, K&L Maidens and the future star stakes two-year-old Guyana bred juveniles.
All races will run under the Guyana rules of racing, and entries will open from June 22 and close on June 26.
Full entries, declaration of horse, jockey & equipment are to be made in person at the Racing Office c/o Director of Racing Operations Mr John Rupert. The Racing Office is located at Lot #15 Strand, New Amsterdam (J’s Supermarket).
All entry forms must be signed up in full by either the owner or trainer or an agent representing the stable.
All entries are to be paid in full at the office when the forms are signed up.
Three raceday bands per horse will be issued upon entering horses – one for the owner, one for the trainer and one for the groom.
All jockeys riding on race day must visit the Racing Office to sign the entry form of the horse they are engaged to ride on race day.
The entry forms for imported jockeys booked to ride can be signed by the owner or trainer that has brought them into the country.
All jockeys booked to ride are to report to the Jockey Room on race morning for 10am. Do not be late please, a register form will be there for you to book in your time. It will be monitored by the stewards.
Grooms:
Dress appropriately to ensure your safety among the horses that you are in charge of, for example no slippers or short pants or vests or short sleeves.
Post Position Drawing for ALL RACES will be conducted at the Racetrack Grandstand, on Sunday June 28, 2026 from 2pm.
No late entries will be accepted. No entries will be accepted over the phone, including WhatsApp messages or calls.
All entry fees are to be paid upon entering horses at the Racing Office within the five-day entry process.
No entry payments will be accepted on race day. Entry fee refunds on scratched runners on race day will be returned to the owner or trainer when official race winnings are dispersed.
