CG United Super50 tournament: Mayers’s ton flattens Volcanoes

An unbeaten century from Kyle Mayers inspired Barbados Pride to an eight-wicket win via Duckworth Lewis and Stern method over Winward Islands Volcanoes yesterday in a rain-affected contest.
Pride won the toss and inserted Volcanoes, who erupted to 241 for eight in their allotted overs. Pride responded with 148 for two in 14.5 overs with 37 balls remaining.
Mayers led the charge with a belligerent 107 not out from 52 balls. His innings featured nine sixes and nine fours despite losing his opening partner Kraigg Brathwaite for a first ball duck to Ryan John.
During Mayers’ innings he also lost Shamarh Brooks for eight, but was steadied by his skipper Shai Hope, who made 29 not out from 28 balls. Hope struck two sixes and a four along the way while sharing an unbroken 70-run partnership.
When Volcanoes had batted, opener Johnson Charles continued his purple patch with a top score of 59 coming from 48 balls and featuring three sixes along with seven fours. He was supported by Jeremy Solozano with 40 from 68 balls, and Kaveem Hodge who made a 38-ball 34 before being stumped off of Jomel Warrican. Cameos also came from Larry Edward (32 not out), Shamar Springer (23) and Alick Athanaze (22).
Warrican returned 2-24 while Roston Chase picked up 2-29.
