Child sex offender sobs uncontrollably after guilty verdict

It was an emotional display at the Sexual Offences Court on Tuesday as Troy Jackson was found guilty of child sexual activity by a 12-member jury.
The charge stated that on October 20, 2016, in the county of Demerara, he engaged in sexual activity with a child under 16. Jackson was accused of placing

his penis at the young female’s genitals.
Guyana Times understands that the defendant, who is in his thirties, was a family friend of the victim’s relatives and had even lived with them at one point. Upon hearing the jury’s verdict, which was returned with 10 of the 12 voting the defendant guilty as charged, Jackson broke down in tears.
Presiding judge Simone Morris-Ramlall however deferred the matter to this morning, as Jackson’s lawyer Adrian Thompson was not present. The child was seven years old at the time Jackson committed the act. State Counsel Seeta Bisundial led the prosecution’s case with assistance from fellow Prosecutors Narissa Leander and Orinthia Schmidt.
