In scintillating sunshine in the capital city, Team Evolution’s Curtis “Chappy” Dey took top honours in the feature event of the Touche Kosmetics-Embellisha circuit race on the outer circuit of the National Park. Dey, who had a huge lead, rode solo to stop the clock in the 15-lap seniors/open category event, at one hour 29 minutes and five seconds.
He finished ahead of his teammate Paul DeNobrega while the ever-improving Andre “Padlock” Green came third, followed by fellow Berbician Andrew Hicks – all coming home in an exciting bunch sprint. Christopher Griffith came fifth and Marcus Keiler rode in sixth in the seniors/open category. Green claimed two sprint prizes in the lucrative event while Dey had one followed by Dutch rider Sahadeo, who also had one sprint prize.
Kwame “Keyman” Ridley stopped the clock at one hour one minute and 56 seconds to win the veterans Under-50 followed by Jaikarran Sukhai and Warren McKay. In the veteran over-50, Talim Shaw rode in first while Ian Jackson, Shameer Baksh and Gary Benjamin came home in that order.
In the juveniles category, We Stand United promising star Alex Leung rode in first, with three sprint prizes followed by Aaron Newton. Sherwin Sampson was the top junior rider while Flying Ace’s top junior Mario Washington came in second, followed by Berbice’s David Hicks, who claimed three sprint prizes. Linden’s Suzanne Hamilton continued to reign supreme as she won the female category, and claimed all the sprint prizes on offer, followed by Clevica Spencer.
The race, which was sponsored by Touche Kosmetics/Embellisha, was hailed as a huge success. The Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) expressed gratitude to the National COVID-19 Task-Force and the sponsors, along with the Guyana Police Force who played an integral role.
