CWI paying close attention to situation in India/Pakistan

Tensions are currently ongoing between India and Pakistan in the Kashmir region, and Cricket West Indies (CWI) has noted that the situation between the two nations is being monitored, especially because Caribbean athletes are currently competing in franchise tournaments in those two countries.

Several West Indian players are competing in franchise leagues in both India and Pakistan, which has now become a high-tension region

In a missive released on Thursday morning in regard to the situation, CWI disclosed, “Cricket West Indies (CWI) is closely monitoring the escalating situation between India and Pakistan following recent military actions in the region. We are in active communication with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and our players currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“We have also engaged our strategic partner, West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA), to coordinate and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all West Indies players and support personnel in the region. The welfare of our people remains our highest priority.
“CWI continues to receive regular updates through diplomatic, governmental, and cricketing channels, and stands ready to offer assistance where necessary.
“We remain committed to the spirit of international cricket and to supporting our players through this uncertain and sensitive period.”
Among the West Indies cricketers in India currently are Guyanese Shimron Hetmyer (Rajasthan Royals), Sherfane Rutherford (Gujarat Titans), Romario Shepherd (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Shamar Joseph (Lucknow Super Giants). Their Caribbean counterparts are Trinidadian Sunil Narine and Jamaicans Andre Russell and Rovman Powell of Kolkata Knight Riders; and Trinidadian Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants.
Those playing cricket in Pakistan are Barbadians Jason Holder (Islamabad United) and Shai Hope (Multan Sultans); Antiguan Alzarri Joseph (Peshawar Zalmi) and Trinidadian Akeal Hosein (Quetta Gladiators).
Guyanese Gudakesh Motie was in Pakistan playing cricket for the Multan Sultans, but it has been reported that he returned home from the PSL some weeks ago.
