Duo granted bail on ganja trafficking charge

Two men were each granted $75,000 bail on a joint drug trafficking charge.
Aubrey Williams, 45, a mason of North East La Penitence, Georgetown, and 58-year-old Kester Isaacs, a farmer of Train Line, Wismar, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on April 27, at Train Line, Wismar, Linden, they had 260 grams of marijuana in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Conditionalities attached to bail are that the two accused lodge their passports with the Clerk of Court and report to the Mackenzie Police Station on the first Monday of every month.
The case continues on June 27. Police Headquarters said that the men were arrested following an intelligence-led operation at a “drug block” at Wismar, Linden. Police said that Williams was under surveillance. When he was arrested at the “drug block”, he had $15,000 in his possession suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotics. Police ranks then went on to search the area and found one bulky black plastic bag that contained three transparent plastic bags with leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be Cannabis sativa. According to a Police report, Williams denied ownership of the drug, stating that the illegal substance belonged to his uncle, Isaacs. Isaacs was also sitting in the “drug block” at the time. As such, they were both arrested. (G1)
