A cosmetologist and a serving member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) who were charged in November 2018 for narcotic trafficking had the matter dismissed against them.
Niketa Bishop and Jamal Eastman have been freed after the charge was dismissed by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
The Magistrate dismissed the charge after finding that the Police were unable to prove the elements of the charge.
The duo of Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), had pleaded not guilty to the charge when they made their first court appearance.
The charge stated that on November 5, 2018 at Lot 1212 Diamond, they had 380 grams (0.8 pound) of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.
During the trial, the couple were represented by Attorney-at-Law Bernard DaSilva.
