GFF Women’s Development League… GDF stroll to 2nd win, taming Pakaru Jaguars in their opening match

The St Cuthbert’s Mission (Lokono: Pakuri) village, nestled on the Mahaica River in the Demerara-Mahaica region was the centre of attraction once again following their hosting of the kick-off of last year’s historical female end-of-the-year football championship.
This time, the village welcomed the experienced Guyana Defence Force (GDF) female team for their debut match in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Women’s Development League on Saturday.
While the experienced Army side romped to a 4-0 win, the home team, Pakaru Jaguars fought well and made their supporters proud despite losing. The Jaguars battled well, and it was the experienced trio of Abiose Heywood, who netted a double, Kellyann Niles (single strike); and the veteran Andrea Lashley who made the difference.
The GDF scored two goals on either side of play and they have advanced to six points from two matches and are second in the points table behind Fruta Conquerors (+29) on a similar number of points, but better goal difference to the Army’s 8.
Two more matches were slated for the GFF National Training Centre yesterday when Potaro Strikers took on Police and New Amsterdam United versus Santos.
