Hardyal elated at defence of O-50 title

Regal Legends stormed to the O-50 title in the recent PM T20 Cup. The team has been one of Guyana’s top softball teams in its category. Members successfully defended their 2020 title to emerge victorious in 2021. As such, team captain Mahendra Hardyal has stated that the team is elated.
In an interview with this publication, Hardyal was asked how he felt at the winning moment, and he said, “Certainly, we are very elated! And we are making this a habit!”

The Regal and Wellman players at the end of the tournament

Asked if there was any selection issue, the skipper related that the team plays softball almost every week, and members have been together for over a decade. “Look, we have included Sunil Dhaniram and Nerat Lall from Canada, so when we started on Friday, we did say that there is not much we have to do because of the experience. And we know that when the dust settled at the Providence Stadium that afternoon, we certainly came out successful. We have 15 players in the team who can start, so yes it was difficult, and I guess the players understand” he said.

Eric Thomas bagged 5-17 in the final

The Regal skipper relayed that based on the setup of the team, the players understood what was needed.
Hardyal said that, as a sponsor, they had met six months prior to the tournament and that the meetings were fruitful with the Prime Minister, and thus they were given the tournament with a 40 percent attendance at the ground.
In the legends category, the MVP was awarded to Unnis Yusuf for his 181 runs and two wickets. Regal Legends posted a whopping 171-6 in their allotment of 20 overs. Ramesh Narine scored 43 alongside Unnis Yusuf’s 35 and Eoin Abel’s blistering 24. In reply, Regal spun a web around Wellman and dismissed them for 79 in 18.3 overs.
