Kwakwani duo remanded for narco-trafficking

Leamont Leacock, 30, of Kwakwani Waterfront, Region 10, and Sheldon Sooklall, 24, of Kwakwani Park, Region 10, were both remanded to prison on Tuesday after pleading not guilty to the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The duo appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Linden Magistrate’s Court. The court heard that the two on Sunday, July 8, while at Mountain Charrow River, Aroaima Village, allegedly had in their possession 5685 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Based on reports received, Police ranks were on patrol when they observed a wooden boat being propelled by a 15-horsepower outboard engine with three occupants.
However, upon noticing the Police, one of the occupants reportedly jumped overboard with a grey tarpaulin and a bulky rice bag.
Leacock asked the court why the other individual in the boat was not charged and the Magistrate asked the prosecution to get more information on the matter.
Medical attention was ordered for Leacock since he claimed he was injured and was not allowed to seek medical attention while incarcerated.
Leacock and Sooklall were remanded until July 20, 2018 and the matter transferred to the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court.
