Lady Trojans triumph!

“Hit It For 50” schools’ windball competition…

The Lady Trojans team of the University of Guyana (UG) have won the National Sports Commission/AL Sports & Tour Promotions/FBF- sponsored round-robin schools windball tournament.

They won all of the five matches they contested as action in this tournament unfolded at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
In their final game — against Camille’s Academy — these Lady Trojans batted first and scored 146-0. Then they restricted Camille’s Academy to 105-1. The Lady Trojans were led by Akaze Thompson, but Keisha Fraser hit 87 (6s-10), which combined with MVP Akaze Thompson’s 42 to take them to their mammoth total. Shoalin Raghoo, with 52, and Tamika Simon, with 30, were the scorers for Camille’s Academy.
In the third-place playoff, Cummings Lodge Secondary were able to post 74-2, with Erica Mentore contributing 38. Needing redemption, Camille’s Academy raced to their target effortlessly, and ended their innings on 76-2. Tamika Simon top scored with 34.
In the male category, the New Central High posted 89-4 against The Business School. Although Deonarine Tiwari top scored with 32, their innings were restricted by Ezekiel Wilson, who bagged 3-14.
Chasing such a small total, The Business School raced to a 92-0 victory, with Jeffrey Blair leading from the front with 62.
The New Central High then went on to battle Cummings Lodge Secondary in an encounter in which they posted 91-1. Deonarine Tiwari again led with the bat in scoring 60. However, a determined Cummings Lodge Secondary easily chased down that total to end their innings on 95-2, of which Josh Alves scored 58.
Play in this tournament is set to resume on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 with the knockout stage being featured.
