A car hijacking case on the East Bank of Demerara took a sudden turn on Thursday after the owner confessed to several armed robberies, which he allegedly committed.
Based on information received, the car – a black fielder wagon which was suspected to be involved in an alleged robbery under arms committed on Andrew Thomas and another male of Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was found abandoned at Friendship, EBD, on August 4, 2020.
However, on Wednesday, the car’s registered owner, a 27-year-old operator of Victory Valley, Linden, went to the Highway Base Patrol and reported that his vehicle was hijacked on the day of the robberies by two males on the EBD. But during an interview with ranks at the base, they became suspicious since his story had several inconsistencies.
As such, he was arrested and questioned in relation to a series of robberies. On Thursday, he was taken to the car where lawmen conducted a search in his presence.
During the search, an unlicensed silver black rubber grip .380 Harrisburg pistol and three live matching rounds were unearthed under the mat at the driver’s seat.
He was immediately cautioned and further questioned, where he confessed his involvement in the crime on both victims. He is currently in Police custody, where he is expected to be hauled before the courts in the new week. (G1)
