Mason charged for robbing minibus passengers

Twenty-three-year-old Alfred Taylor landed himself before the Court of law after he allegedly robbed two passengers in a minibus in which he too was a passenger.
The mason appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday after he was slapped with two counts of robbery.
The first charge alleged that on June 27, 2019 at Stabroek Market, he robbed Keith James of a Samsung cellular phone, a silver band, and cash which amounted to a total of $116,000.
It was also alleged that the Lot 7 Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara (WBD) resident on the same date and location robbed Akash Persaud of a Samsung cellular phone valued $37,000.
In Court on Friday, Taylor denied the charges when they were read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly. Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh informed the Court that Taylor entered a Route 47 minibus (Back Road, East and West Ruimveldt route), in which the Virtual Complainants were seated. Shortly after, Taylor began firing several lashes at the victims and demanded that they handed over their belongings, after which he exited the bus and made his escape from the bus park. According to the prosecution’s case, the victims raised an alarm and public-spirited persons managed to have chased and caught Taylor and handed him over to the Police. The Police conducted a search on Taylor and the stolen items were recovered. Magistrate Daly released the mason on $80,000 bail for each of the charges. The case will continue on August 2, 2019.
